SIEM REAP 004 – FULL DAY TOUR – TEMPLES plus CRAFTS IN THE OLD TOWN
The perfect tour for those who wish to enjoy the majesty and awe of the temples of Angkor in one morning, then spend the afternoon exploring some of the more fascinating  corners of the old Town of Siem Reap.
Transfer by private vehicle to Ta Prohm. This beautiful temple, built in 1186 as a Buddihist temple dedicated to the mother of Jayavarman VII, is one of Angkor’s jewels and is overgrown with fig trees, giving a haunting yet exotic atmosphere. One of the largest temple sites in Angkor, it took almost 80,000 people to the mountain the temple.
Your exploration continues to Angkor Thom not a temple, but entire walled city of 9 sq kms which served as the royal Capital from approx. 1181. With a population 1 million it was far bigger than city in Europe at the time. The centre piece is the Bayon temple growned with  216 giant, enigmatic, smiling faces. Continue walking along the Terraces of the Elephants and Leper king.
Your morning sightseeing ends with a visit to Angkor Wat (early 12th centuries) surrounded by a 190 metre wide moat 1.5 kms and is claimed to be the largest religious building in the world. You will be amazed by the sheer size of the temple, which took 30 years to construct & used the babours of 300,000 workers. Angkor Wat was built as the earthly representation of the universe with its central tower symbolizing Mt Meru which, Hindu believe, is at the centre of the Universe.
After exciting morning of temple sightseeing, you will return to your hotel for a refreshing shower, lunch (own arrangements) and maybe a dip in the pool.
Resume your exploration around 2pm with guide tour of some of more fascinating metre of the old town of Siem Reap.
Work back across the Pedestrian Bridge to the Old Market and your guide will lead you through the maze of undercover stalls selling fruits, vegetables, meat & fish, household good…and of course, lots of items to appeal to the tourist too.
