SIEM REAP 002-FULL DAY TOUR – TEMPLES (Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom & Ta Prohm)

A long, slow, leisurely tour allowing loads of time not just to enjoy the majesty and awe of the temples of Angkor but to really explore them climb them and simply take as much or as little time as YOU desire.

Visit to Angkor Wat, one of the modern wonders of the world. Be amazed by the sheer size of the temple and learn how the Khmer Empire prospered between the 9^th and 13^th centuries, around the time when Angkor Wat was built. Stroll through the intricately carved hallways that show hundreds of fine carvings and discover small shrines still in use today by the local people. If time permits and you so desire, continue to visit other temples in the areas.

After exciting morning of temple exploration, you will return to your hotel with time for a refreshing shower, lunch (own arrangements) and maybe a dip in the pool.

Your exploration continues with a visit to Angkor Thom not a temple, but an entire walled city of 9 sq kms which served as the royal Capital from approx. 1181. With a population of 1 million, it was far bigger than any city in Europe at the time. The centre piece is the Bayon Temple crowned with 216 giant, enigmatic, smiling faces. Also visit the Terace of the Elephants and Terrace of the Leper King, which houses almost perfectly preserved, detailed carvings.

Drive to Ta Prohm. This beautiful temple is overgrown with fig trees, giving a haunting yet exotic atmosphere. The magnificent roots of the trees have merged over the centuries with the temple’s huge stone blocks, emphasizing a “forgotten city” feeling.
